The Dilemma
Makena and Jae met on the first day of middle school and quickly became each other's most trusted confidants. One day, during lunch, Jae excitedly tells Makena about an amazing adventure he had over the weekend. As Jae describes the events, Makena notices that some parts of the story seem exaggerated. Jae mentions meeting a famous celebrity and having a thrilling chase with a wild animal, which sounds too incredible to be true. Makena knows that Jae tends to embellish stories to make them more exciting. Later, some classmates overhear Jae's story and start questioning its truthfulness. Makena feels torn. She values honesty and knows that if Jae continues to exaggerate, it might lead to distrust among their friends. However, she also doesn't want to embarrass Jae or damage their friendship by calling him out in front of others. Makena
